There will be plenty of hands on adjusting for mainstream carriers because of legality (unless Feds mandate changes). We have three elements - wind, contents, flood which some of the larger carriers will write as three seperate claims. Not to mention fire which will only get worse as time goes on in NO. The devastation is mind boggling, however as already seen protocol prevails. I'm sure that everything possible to take care of insureds will be done, and carriers will have to rethink strageties, but law will prevail. Long term changes will indeed be brought about by this enormous catastrophe - no doubt.
States should mandate time schedules for claim closing at their level based on the needs in their area.
All this being said, speculation or contemplation or consideration of this catastrophe and meditation upon current events is warranted and necessary. To contribute to the furtherance of relief to help the needy and improve their living conditions in the wake of this storm should remain a priority.
