Found this on another forum, interesting. Pass it on.
"This is a copy of an email I sent to several Gov't agencies. I have also contacted the Texas Baptist General Convention which runs 33 of these encampments. I also contacted several other encampments and they think it is a great idea and will be contacting me early next week. My attempt to contact someone at FEMA has been unsucsessful. In order for this plan to begin we will need the Govt to help. If anyone has any good contacts let me know.

This is my rough Idea.
Place the persons at church encampments. I grew up
attending summer church camps in Texas(Texas has over
60 of these camps alone). These
facilities typically house about 700 - 1000 persons.
Most camps are set up as follows:
Dorm rooms with beds for about 20-30 people
3-4 showers per dorm
2-4 toilets per dorm
most have HVAC systems
large meeting areas
Gyms
cafeterias
small classrooms
My idea is to place the people in this setting until
things can get rebuilt. This is the slow season for
these facilities. They will have a few weekend
retreats. these events could be canceled due to the
disaster. These are church facilities and should be
willing to accommodate. Most camps have sponsor
churches who could help out.
The persons staying at the camps could help out with
food preparation,cleaning maintaining
facilities,ect...(maybe fema could pay them to help
them get back on their feet).
Each camp could have nat'l guard, medical staff,
security ,ect...Displaced teachers could teach school
at the camps
Nationwide there are 100's of these facilities
multiple that by 800 and we could take care of alot of
people
I'm not in politics but I think this may put a lot of
people in a better situation than they are in now.
If this idea is worked on I think we could be on to
something big!!!!!!!!!
Please pass this on and let me know what you think!!!
I will be in contact with local chuch camps but need
your help to make this happen!!!!!!!
Our prayers are with the hurting
